Rihanna Told to Cover Up in Abu Dhabi?

This week Daily Mirror, the British tabloid, reported that it had been requested that Rihanna dress more conservatively when she performs her show on New Year’s Eve in Abu Dhabi at Emirates Palace Hotel. However organizers are insisting that isn’t true.

According to Daily Mirror, the singer from Barbados along with her production team have worked around the clock in order to make her stage costumes more appropriate for Abu Dhabi’s local tradition, which appears to be more conversative than their Dubai neighbors.

Concert organizers however are denying the media reports of Rihanna being told she couldn’t wear her sexy trademark stage outfits.

Flash, the concert organizer, issued a statement that said the figures and facts that had been reported recently concerning the Abu Dhabi concert of Rihanna’s were completely inaccurate. Gulf News, an English language newspaper based in the United Arab Emirates, quoted the statement.

Rihanna, according to Daily Mirror, may also need to obtain a license for storing alcohol inside her dressing room while performing if she is wanting champagne to ring the New Year in.

Rihanna, Jay-Z on Deck for Jay Leno’s New Show

Rihanna, Kayne West and Jay-Z, three of R&B’s biggest names, will be performing together next month for “The Jay Leno Show’s” debut episode.

The three will be appearing in the September 14 launch episode for the new primetime show of Leno’s on NBC and perform the single “Run This Town” from “The Blueprint 3,” the forthcoming album fromJay-Z due out in stores on September 11.

It will be one of the first public performances for Rihanna since Chris Brown, R&B singer and former boyfriend, assaulted her last February.

A judge ordered Brown to stay 10 yards away at least from Rihanna during public events. On August 27 he will be sentenced. According to reports that have been published, it is expected that Brown will be receiving probation of five years and community labor of six months.

Chris Brown Escapes Jail Time for Beating Rihanna

On June 22, Chris Brown pled guilty on assault charges. The Los Angeles Times has reported that in exchange for his plea he will receive no jail time from the beating in February of former girlfriend Rihanna. The plea agreement terms were agreed to just a few hours before Brown’s hearing was scheduled to start. Brown won’t see any jail time but will be performing community labor for six months, be serving five years of probation, and enroll in a domestic violence prevention course that lasts for a year.

In addition, Judge Patricia Schnegg from the Los Angeles County Superior Court ordered the twenty year old Brown for five years to remain 50 yards away at least from Rihanna. One of Rihanna’s lawyers said she thought that order was too extreme since Brown and Rihanna attend many of the same functions in the entertainment industry. Judge Schnegg lessened the distance so that Brown had to only stay 10 yards away at public events from Rihanna.

Reportedly, Rihanna’s lawyer said she didn’t have objections to the deal after hearing about the details. Rihanna had been prepared to testify against her former boyfriend.

The Los Angeles Times reported that a district attorney office spokesperson had said it was similar agreement to other cases when this sort of felony was charged.

The plea agreement also involved dropping the charge of criminal threats against Brown.

The judge agreed that Brown would be able to fulfill his sentencein Virginia, his home state.

A district attorney office spokesperson said that Brown would probably be required to complete approximately 1400 hours of community service involving graffiti removal, trash pickup and other similar duties.

Chris Brown Arrested for Domestic Abuse Charges Against Rihanna

Chris Brown on February 8 was arrested for the alleged assault of Rihanna, his girlfriend, while the pair was headed home from the annual pre-Grammy bash of Clive Davis. Reportedly the couple had been scheduled for a performance together during the Grammy Award show. It had to be canceled and last minute replacements had to be found.

Police from the Los Angeles department confirmed that Brown was involved in a dispute with a companion at around 12:30 a.m. on February 8 in L.A.’s Hancock Park area. The argument escalated and became an altercation.

Domestic abuse victims are not named by the police. However according to a New York Daily News unnamed source, Rihanna left the car that her and Brown were traveling in and started to walk home. When Brown attempted to stop her that’s when things got physical. It was confirmed by the police that visible injuries were suffered by the woman.

When police arrived at the scene, Brown wasn’t there. Later he turned himself in. According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, Mark Geragos, high profile attorney, accompanied him. Brown was charged and booked with making criminal threats and is under investigation for domestic violence felony charges.

After posting bail of $50,000, Brown was released.

Brown’s label spokeswoman declined to comment. The publicist for Rihanna said she had been involved in a traffic mishap but was well.

Rihanna, Kanye West, Alicia Keys Take Lead at AMA Awards

Chris Brown, R&B star, won big at the American Music Awards 36th annual ceremony on Sunday. He won Artist of the Year along with two other awards.

When named as Artist of the Year Brown appeared to be stunned. While walking up to the stage he said “what?” repeatedly. He told the audience he would have given the award to Coldplay. Brown also won for Best Male Soul/R&B Artist and Best Male Pop/Rock Artist.

Rihanna, Brown’s girlfriend, was named Best Soul/R&B Female Artist and Best Pop/Rock Female Artist. Neither Rihanna or Brown made reference to each other during their acceptance speeches.

Other winners of multiple awards included Kayne West and Alicia Keys. West won an American Music Award for the first time. His set “Graduation” won for Best Rap/Hip Hop Album.

West pontificating about his talents said, I want to thank everyone who accepted me and my attempting to break into new boundaries with my music. When I wake up I think about what stereotypes I would like to break. With “Stronger,” my last album, we pushed that envelope. They didn’t think that record would be played on urban radio.

West said it was the responsibility of musicians to continue competing and pushing each other.

West said it was a great competition and that he wanted to become the next Elvis.

Jimmy Kimmel, the host, jokingly said Elvis died with half a donut while on the toilet. You might want to think that one over. Earlier in the show Kimmel quipped that speaking of God, we have Kayne West with us. Later on Kayne will be on the stage. He will either throw a tantrum or sing, depending on the way things go.

In addition Kimmel made pointed comments at Paris Hilton as well as Scott Weiland, frontman of the Stone Temple Pilots, who gave a slurry introduction of Pink.

West, who is known for throwing a tantrum at times he doesn’t win, later explained it wasn’t the right timing for “Graduation” winning Best Rap/Hip Hop Album.

West said, I really do appreciate the two awards. I have to say though I’m a music fan and I have an opinion. For this year I want this award to go to Lil Wayne. Last year the award would have been mine. This year it belongs to Wayne. Next year we will see what happens.

Kimmel also had a comment on that. He said, one year Kayne complains about not getting an award. This year he gives his awards away. That’s ridiculous. He needs to make his mind up.

Taylor Swift was delighted to win as Best Female Country Artist.

Swift said, it’s an honor you even caring about songs that I write inside my room. This week Swift had the top rated album.

Daughtry was named as Best Pop/Rock Band/Duo/Group. In his acceptance speech Chris Daughtry made no mentions of “American Idol.”

Daughtry said, we are so grateful for our fans allowing us to every day live out our dreams. I would not be anything without these guys.

Mariah Carey and Annie Lennox received their accolades from Terrence Howard and Justin Timberlake. Lennox, who was visibly moved, told the audience that the journey had been incredible.

Lennox said that music had accompanied her for most of her life and been her friend. Most of that had been with the Eurythmics’ Dave Steward. It’s important that Dave get half this award, Lennox added.

The bar was set high for all of the performers by Christina Aguilera. She kicked the show off with a medley that included “Fighter,” “Ain’t No Other Man,” “Dirty,” “Genie in a Bottle” “Keeps Gettin’ Better” and “Beautiful.” New Kinds on the Block also performed a medley of both new and old material. Ne-Yo performed “Closer,” while Leona Lewis did a rendition of “Better in Time,” her break-up tune. At the AMAs, Miley Cyrus turned sixteen. The Jonas Brothers gave a flat performance. The Pussycat Dolls performed “When I Grow Up” while pole dancing.
