Queen Extravaganza Maps Out Tour, Extensive Quebec City Residency

Queen Extravaganza, a tribute show put together by the surviving members of Queen, will take up a month-long residency in Quebec next summer, and will tour North America beginning in January 2013.

The North American tour will kick off January 11, 2013 at the Tarrytown Music Hall in Tarrytown, N.Y., and is scheduled to continue through a February 3 show at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Additional cities on the tour itinerary include Huntington, N.Y.; Hershey, Penn.; Verona, N.Y.; Toronto; Montreal and Quebec City, Quebec.

The Quebec City gigs in January will be a short residency at the Theatre Capitole held January 22-23 and January 25-27. The Queen Extravaganza will then return to that venue for an additional residency that will begin on August 6 and be held most of the remaining days of that month, ending with a final show on September 1.

The tour primarily was masterminded by Queen drummer Roger Taylor, who spoke of the advantage new technology has given the production.

“We did the first 10 years of our career with just the four of us, no additions, you know the technology wasn’t there,” he said. “We were relying on stripped down adrenalized versions of our songs and our own personalities. But with this band, we continue to push all the musical boundaries with technology that was not available to the four of us originally. This band is a powerhouse of talent. To hear our songs performed by them gives fans a chance to hear them (our songs) now as they could have done then and perhaps technically, even better.”

The band was assembled through an online competition and features two vocalists – Marc Martel and Jennifer Espinoza – handling the parts originally handled by the late Freddie Mercury. The rest of the band is made up of guitarist Brian Gresh, drummer Tyler Warren and bassist Francois Olivier Doyon.
