Last year, Peter Gabriel went on tour for the first time in a decade. This time he won’t make his fans wait that long.
Clear Channel Entertainment is reporting that on June 7 Gabriel will be launching his summer tour of amphitheaters in San Francisco. The tour so far is scheduled to stop in 16 cities: Indianapolis; Columbus; Detroit; Chicago; Milwaukee; Wantagh, NY; Washington, D.C.; Philadelphia; Holmdel, NJ; Boston; Atlanta; West Palm Beach; Houston; Dallas; Los Angeles and San Francisco.
Organizers for the event say that the stage production, which was developed by Robert Le Page, director and designer who designed Gabriel’s “Secret World Live Tour” in 1993, will be very similar to what was used during Gabriel’s outing in 2002. Some of the features from the production included a twelve foot transparent ball Gabriel used for bouncing around on stage while he sang “Growing Up.” While he sang along with his daughter Melanie the song “Downside Up,” he walked upside down with a harness suspending him.
Gabriel’s touring band will include Melanie Gabriel with additional vocals, Ged Lynch on percussion and drums, Rachel Z on keyboards, Tony Levin on bass, David Rhodes on guitar, and Richard Evans on mandolin, guitars and other instruments.
For every ticket that is sold, he will be donating $1.50 to Witness, an international human rights organization that was co-founded by Gabriel.
Clear Channel reports that tickets for select dates will be going on sale starting March 9.
“Up,” the latest album from Gabriel, was released in September.
Peter Gabriel, the pop rock icon, will embark on his first tour of the U.S. in almost 10 years. The trek has been name “Growing Up Live.” Some dates have been pushed back awhile others have been eliminated.
Now the tour will be starting in Chicago, and there will be two shows instead of one at United Center. This means the tour will be launching a week later than it had been scheduled originally and eliminates dates for Columbus and Atlanta, while the shows in Washington D.C. and Cleveland will be rescheduled. The publicists say the reason for the delay is needing more time for organizing the complicated production requirements of the show.
The tour was announced by Gabriel in New York at Supper Club, where he was performing three of his new songs off of “Up,” his newly released album. It’s the first album for Gabriel in 11 years.
Peter Gabriel got his start as the lead singer of Genesis, the art rock group. He’s also had success as a solo artist with hit singles like “Sledgehammer.” Gabriel has also branched out and experimented with world music, and worked on multimedia projects as well as soundtracks, including the soundtrack for “The Last Temptation of Christ” by Martin Scorsese.
Gabriel for his new tour will be using his same design team that work on “Secret World Live,” his 1993 outing.
