Paul McCartney Becomes First to Open The Joint in Las Vegas

Paul McCartney will be headlining at the April 19 grand-opening weekend for The New Joint in Las Vegas, located at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. In a recent statement McCartney said he was really looking forward to rocking The Joint.

The remodel for The Joint, part of Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s $750 million expansion, will double the size of the venue but maintain the original atmosphere. The furthest seat will be only 155 feet away from the stage. According to a recent press release, the $60 million remodeling job will include a sound system which is state of the art, WiFi access, a new lighting system, a complete blogging station for the press, as well as 38 flat screens located throughout the venue.

In a statement John Meglen, Co-CEO and President of AEG Live/Concerts West said, we couldn’t have received a greater legend from rock and roll than Paul McCartney for opening The New Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel. Booking Paul McCartney just reinforces the image of The Joint as a legendary home for rock and roll.

On February 14 tickets will be going on sale via Ticketmaster and from the hotel box office.

Paul McCartney, Radiohead to Perform at Grammys

Paul McCartney, former Beatle and rock legend, along with alternative rock icons Radiohead will be performing at the 51st Annual ceremony for the Grammy Awards next month.

McCartney, who has received two Grammy nominations this year (Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance for “I Saw Her Standing There” and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “That Was Me”), will have Dave Grohl, frontman of the Foo Fighters, on the drum kit for his appearance at the Grammys.

According to the organizers, Radiohead will be making their first live television performance in the US since 2000.

Other production details that have recently been revealed include Justin Timberlake and T.I., the rapper, teaming up to do a performance together, and nominees Kayne West, T.I., Lil Wayne and Jay-Z performing a “Swagga Like Us” rendition.

The 51st Annual ceremony for the Grammy Awards will be taking place on February 8 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The ceremony will be broadcast live by CBS.

McCartney Set to Rock Israel

This month Paul McCartney will be performing in Tel Aviv. Forty three years ago the Israeli government banned the Beatles from playing, stating that the group’s amplified and strident music could corrupt Israeli youth morals, according to Haaretz, an Israeli news site.

Reportedly last week the concert was confirmed by McCartney’s manager Barry Marshall. The venue was approved even though it doesn’t meet the performer’s requirements of having 250,000 seats. McCartney will be performing at Park Hayarkon on September 25.

It is expected that the current world tour for McCartney will be the last large scale tour for him. According to the Sunday Mirror, McCartney would like to settle down so he can spend time with Beatrice, his daughter.

McCartney, Killers, The Cure to Headline Coachella

Organizers for the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, in a move that’s unusual, have chosen Paul McCartney as the headliner for the first night of the three day event.

The annual indie rock festival, which is known for having an edgy lineup, will also have The Cure and The Killers on the main stage as headliners. The festival will be held April 17-19 at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. Coachella made its debut there in 1999. This year’s festival will include over 130 acts performing.

Other artists confirmed for the event include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, TV on the Radio, Thievery Corporation, Mystic Valley Band, Conor Oberst, Leonard Cohen, My Bloody Valentine, Franz Ferdinand, Amy Winehouse and Morrissey.

According to the event’s press release, the performance by McCartney will be his first time to appear at a US festival. His set will be featuring a live debut of “Electric Arguments” material, which is his new album that was released under the alias Fireman that McCartney shares with musician and producer Youth.

In his statement McCartney said, I have heard Coachella is a great festival, one of the best in the world. I’m very excited about going there to rock.

McCartney’s participation was questioned by the Los Angeles Times. The newspaper wondered if the festival’s credibility as a cutting edge event would be hurt by McCartney headlining there. However Paul Tollett, mastermind of Coachella, doesn’t appear to be worried about it.

Tollett replied saying, he’s a Beatle. It’s huge. He also added that the main stage is ignored by a large number of returning customers anyway. Also Madonna was included at the event in 2006.

On January 30 tickets went on sale for Coachella through Ticketmaster outlets. The cost for a three day weekend pass is $269 plus facility and charity fees. Single day tickets cost $99 plus fees. Goldenvoice, festival promoter, for the very first time is offering a few three day package layaway plans. Coachella’s website contains all the details.
