Former Smiths frontman Morrissey was forced to postpone what was planned to be the first U.S. gig of his current tour in Chicago on Thursday because his lead guitarist was unable to perform in the U.S. this week “due to a visa administration error.” All tickets will be honored at the rescheduled show, set for December 17 at the Congress Theater, where the original show was to be held. The A.V. Club reports that Moz has been spotted around Chicago rehearsing for the upcoming tour in recent days.

A representative for Morrissey said the rest of the tour should go ahead as planned, and the next show will be held November 14 at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio, Texas. The tour was planned a 15-date tour through North America, hitting Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas and a few cities in Mexico, among other stops.

Morrissey’s last record, Years of Refusal, was released in 2009. The record peaked at number 11 on the Billboard 100 chart and number three on the U.K. Albums Chart. But Morrissey has not stayed out of the spotlight over the past two years.

Known for controversy, he’s been accused of racism and other things, but most recently he’s been in the news because of an attempt to sue British magazine NME for libel. The singer first brought charges against the magazine in 2007 because of an article he said insinuated he made racist. With nothing done in the intervening four years, the case has now reached a High Court Judge that will decide if the case will go to trial. If the case does go to trial, it would be the first British libel case in two years to go to trial. The judgment of the High Court Judge should be released in a few weeks.

Morrissey has been performing gigs across Europe as well as playing at music festivals. Now his attention turns to North America.

It appears however that Morrissey isn’t showing the east coast much love. He appears to be skipping over most of the major cities on the east coast. I’m reasonably certain he just hasn’t added them to the schedule. Don’t worry just yet.

It would appear that Morrissey would be promoting a new album. The singer however doesn’t have a record deal yet for the singer’s tenth studio album. He also doesn’t have any plans for self-releasing a record. A few weeks ago fans did get a taste of Morrissey’s new material when recordings of new tracks were posted from a session he did with BBC Radio 2. Morrissey also performed at Glastonbury, Britain’s biggest music festival. He was second billing to U2.

Morrissey has announced his new album is recorded and remastered. However, to date, he doesn’t have a record label for releasing it.

The former singer for the Smiths has hinted that his first new set since 2009 was complete, and he was getting a bit frustrating not having the details sorted out concerning how to get his album onto store shelves.

In a statement on True-to-you.net, Morrissey wrote that the follow up for “Years Of Refusal” (his last album) is done. It’s wildly fluttering against the bars. I still don’t have a record label for it, and the years are shuffling like cards. DIY is not one of my talents.

He also said that his recent interview with BBC Radio 4, where Morrissey also used the term “benefit scroungers” to describe Britain’s Royal Family before the Prince William and Kate wedding, had been edited quite heavily.

He wrote, if the interview sounded cropped and chopped, it’s because it really was. I spoke fluently in regards to the royal dreading. However, my views were all confiscated by their Iranian censorship. It is quite distressing that in 2011 the British media only wants to hear the old same feelings and thoughts expressed repeatedly.

Morrissey’s statement in its entirety can be read at True-to-you.net.

Recently, Morrissey announced details for three new July dates. On July 5, he is due to perform at Stoke Victoria Hall, on July 7 at O2 Academy Leeds and on July 8 at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

On Friday May 13, tickets will be going on sale at 9 am.

Morrissey, following his month long tour of Europe this fall, will be returning to the States before the end of the year for a run on the West Coast to promote the upcoming b-sides of “Swords.”

The sweet and short nine city theater and club tour begins in Seattle on November 29 and ends in Ventura, CA on December 11.

The tour will support the upcoming November 3 release by Morrissey of “Swords,” which is a collection of b-sides from the 18 singles on his latest four albums, including “Maladjusted” (1997), “You Are The Quarry,” (2004), “Ringleader of the Tormentors” (2006), and “Years of Refusal” (2009). Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders making a rare guest appearance on “Shame is the Name” is on the record as well as a live version of the David Bowie song, “Drive-In Saturday.”

A press release for the album says that there will be a limited edition “Swords” version which includes a bonus disc that features eight live songs that were recorded in Warsaw, Poland this summer. Morrisey’s most recent release in February, “Years of Refusal,” is his ninth solo album. It is his first with Decca Records, his new label. The deceased Jerry Finn (Bad Religion, AFI) was the producer on the album that was recorded in December 2007 in Los Angeles. Shortly after the record was completed Finn had a cerebral hemorrhage and died at the age of 39 last August. Morrissey tickets are currently onsale through Ticketmaster.
