George Strait's New Album 'Troubadour' Debuts at Number 1

“Troubadour,” the new set from George Strait, sold a total of 166,000 copies for its debut week, giving the country superstar his fourth career No. 1 album.

“Accelerate” by R.E.M. entered Billboard’s 200 chart in the No. 2 spot, selling 115,000 copies. “NOW 27,” the multi-artist hit compilation album rose two spots into the No. 3 spot with 60,000 copies sold. The flagship album chart for Billboard is based on retail reports from Nielsen SoundScan.

The self-titled album from Day26, which held the No. 1 spot last week, fell this week to No. 4 with 51,000 copies sold. The soundtrack from “Alvin and the Chipmunks” rose from No. 16 up to No. 5 with 51,000 copies sold.

The Top 10 was rounded out with “Still Da Baddest” by Trina, “Welcome to the Dollhouse” by Danity Kane, “Saturday Nights & Sunday Morning” by Counting Crows, “Trilla” by Rick Ross and “Keep It Simple” by Van Morrison.
