Acclaimed Irish all-female act Celtic Woman will be looking to a jam-packed fall and winter this year as they prepare for their forthcoming European and Japanese jaunts in September and October, respectively. But they will also hit the road come December for a North American trek that will open with a three-night slate in Pechanga, CA on December 1-3 and will close in Denver, CO a few days before Christmas on the 21st. The winter trek, which will feature the female quartet performing purely Yuletide cheers and themes accompanied by a 45-man orchestra, will also have the group play in eleven other cities, including a two-nighter in Ontario on December 9 and 10.
For the fall trek in Europe and Japan, expect Celtic Woman to perform cuts from their current release ‘Lullaby’. The album, which is the band’s follow-up to ‘Songs from the Heart’ (2010), marks their sixth record. It notched the 5th spot in Billboard’s Top World Albums chart upon its release early this year.
Celtic Woman is composed of Chloe Agnew, Lynn Hilary, Lisa Kelly and fiddler Mairead Nesbitt.
Harrisburg is set to enjoy one of Ireland’s most lyrical voices.
Ex-Celtic Woman, Orla Fallon is performing in concert at the Whitaker Center as part of her “My Land” tour.
Her 50-city tour, which started in Salt Lake City, will traverse across the nation.
Following a four-year stint with Celtic Woman, Fallon left the group to pursue her own solo career. As of now, she has produced two specials for PBS and, in March, released a DVD and CD.
Fallon indicated that it was not easy to make the decision to part ways with such a successful group. However, she has always dreamed of striking out on her own.
She stated, “I always had a yearning to do my own concerts in America.”
Fallon was drawn to music even as a small child. She told her mom and dad that she wanted to pursue music as a career and was allowed to attend a boarding school that focused on musical developed it. When she tried playing the harp, she fell in love with it.
She said, “If I hadn’t learned it, my life would have been so different. It was a pivotal moment.”
Playing the harp allowed Fallon to stand out.
“It’s led to so many doors opening and so many adventures along the way,” Fallon stated about her musical instrument of choice.
Fallon likes to play the harp because her audience is intrigued by its music and the grandness of it.
She stated, “I just think it’s a very mystical, magical instrument.”
At one point in her life, Fallon wanted to be an attorney. However, once she began attending college, she knew that music was the path for her.
She was a music teacher for six years in Ireland and became a performer on a full-time basis. She began performing so much that eventually she was unable to perform as much as she wanted to and still teach. This is when she decided to go for it.
Her whole life was altered when the Celtic Woman invited her to join the group.
She became a celebrity through the group and was allowed to perform in venues all over the world.
“My Land,” Fallon’s CD, is full of both traditional American and Irish tunes. On the CD, Fallon performs a wonderful version of “Both Sides Now,” originally sung by Joni Mitchell.
Fallon indicated that this particular song is her all-time favorite. The song has been important to her since her teenage years.
She said, “It’s the song I sung to celebrate every milestone in my life.”
She also includes several original songs on her CD and in her live tour performances. Fallon is heavily influenced by nature and she says that she often writes her songs while interacting with the out of doors.
One thing about the tour that she can hardly wait for is the interaction with the American audiences. She enjoys letting her fans in on the inspiration for the songs and she likes to hold a conversation with them as well.
Fallon’s songs are intended to make the audience members feel like they’re somewhere else, perhaps in Ireland for the duration of the concert.
Celtic Woman, the Irish vocal group, will be returning to the road following the holidays to perform a winter run across the east part of the U.S. as well as portions of Europe.
Recently the quartet wrapped up a leg in Australia. In early February they will be heading out again and kick off the road trip with a show in Lakeland, FL on February 4. The tour so far is made up of 72 stops. They include multiple night stands in Atlanta on February 23 and 24; in Baltimore on March 9 and 10; in Chicago on April 16 and 17; in Minneapolis on April 22 and 23; in Memphis, TN on May 9 and 10 and in San Antonio, TX on May 16 and 17. The run will be wrapped up by a concert on May 22 in Austin, TX, with a European trek of 10 dates to follow.
Originally the lineup was a quintet. However Alex Sharpe earlier in the year left the group due to her family commitments. The group is currently comprised of vocalists Lisa Kelly, Lynn Hilary and Chloe Agnew, along with Mairead Nesbitt, fiddle player.
Celtic Woman is touring in support of “Songs From the Heart.” The new DVD/CD combo was released in January. Late last year the new collection also came to PBS television stations across the nation in a special entitled “Songs From the Heart- Live at Powerscourt House.”
Each member of Celtic Woman has also released their own solo albums.
Lynn Hilary, a Celtic woman singer, has stunned fans with her leaving the vocal ensemble only weeks after the first tour of Australia had been completed by the group.
Three years ago Lynn became a member of Celtic Woman. During that time she has toured the world with the group and helped to contribute to selling millions of DVDs and CDs of Celtic Woman music.
A personal statement from Lynn was posted on Celtic Woman’s website, explaining her reasons why she had decided to leave. She said, being with Celtic Woman has been an incredible experience.. I feel very fortunate and privileged to have been able to say I was a Celtic Woman even if it was just for three years. However, more and more I have been missing Ireland as well as my life there. So I’ve made the decision to leave the group while things are still good. I will terribly miss all my friends, and in particularlyy the three special ladies- Lisa Kelly, Chloe Agnew and Mairead Nesbitt. After this hectic year that we’ve had I will always think of the group as Super Women instead of Celtic Women. I won’t ever forget the acceptance and warmth I was given from them and the fans when I arrived to fill such big shoes. I want to also thank the fans who made this entire experience even more colorful. Also I would like to thank Celtic Woman’s amazing team that works so hard behind the scenes. They’ve been an integral part in Celtic Woman becoming so fabulously successful in the past and will continue in the future.
In 2004 David Downes from Riverdance and Sharon Brown put Celtic Woman together. It was expected that it was for just one performance. Six years later the group is still going strong.
For a majority of 2010 “Celtic Woman: Songs From The Heart,” the DVD and CD has been one of the Top 5 albums on the US World Music chart.
Celtic Woman has also sold over 1.5 million tickets for their concerts.
Celtic Woman, the multi platinum selling singing group, has landed their second album debut in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top 200. “Songs from the Heart” is in the No. 9 spot. In addition the album is the fifth release for the group to debut in the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s World Music Chart. The live concert companion DVD also debuted as No. 1on Billboard’s top Music DVD Chart.
Celtic Woman will be kicking off their new national wide tour of over 75 cities starting in Roanoke, VA on February 9, and will include a two night stand on February 26 and 27 at the Radio City Music Hall.
Celtic Woman, with their successes on both the World Music and Billboard Top 200 charts, transcends the classical crossover and Irish music genres, carving a place out for themselves in the adult contemporary music genre using their signature style and sound.
Their new CD features songs they recorded in the studio that came from “Songs from the Heart-Live at Powerscourt House & Gardens,” their 5th TV special on PBS. The special is on the live companion DVD and beautifully captures Celtic Woman’s pure essence. The album and DVD showcase vocalists Alex Sharpe, Lynn Hilary, Chloe Agnew and Lisa Kelly along with the dynamic violin playing of Mairead Nesbitt. Both the DVD and CD of “Songs from the Heart” include contemporary hit songs like “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and “Goodnight My Angel” by Billy Joel in addition to Irish classics such as “My Lagan Love” and “Galway Bay.” There is also a “Songs from the Heart Deluxe Experience Edition CD that fans can purchase. It includes a heart charm keepsake, desktop calendar of 18 months and VIP access to an online virtual Celtic Woman community.
Celtic Woman is a unique all woman ensemble that has experienced lots of mainstream success without having traditional drivers of sales like video and radio airplay. There are no other all woman ensembles in this adult contemporary genre that have sold 5 million albums or had two albums debut in the Top 10 of Billboard’s Top 200, have 3 platinum and gold albums, four releases in the Top 5 of Billboard’s Top Video chart or sold over one million concert tickets. Their success has come through connecting with their fans via specials on Public Television, their frequent tours and by word of mouth when their fans share their music with loved ones and friends.
Recently Celtic Woman performed in Washington D.C. For the National Christmas Tree Lighting. They joined other performers like Ray LaMontagne, Jordin Sparks, Common and Sheryl Crow. The ability of the group to cross over cultural and musical boundaries was in evidence when they were invited to perform on the ABC television show “Dancing With The Stars,” where they sang for approximately 23 million viewers. Their TV specials on PBS over the last five years have dominated the airwaves.
You’d think that after the exhaustive tour schedule of 2009 Celtic Woman would want a break from the road. Think again. The Irish vocal group has lined up a 75-city tour for 2010 that begins with a three night stand in Roanoke, Virginia February 9-11 and eventually wraps up on May 22 in Salt Lake City, Utah. A full listing of Celtic Woman tour dates are outlined below.
Celtic Woman is touring in support of their upcoming release “Songs from the Heart” which will hit store shelves as a CD/DVD combo pack on January 26. PBS aired a special “Songs from the Heart – Live at Powerscourt House” last month. The special marked the group’s fifth public broadcast special, filmed in HD at an Irish estate. If a new album isn’t enough to quench your thirst for all things Celtic Woman, each group member will be releasing their own solo album in the coming months.
Tickets for the upcoming tour go onsale Monday (12/14), but it you support your local PBS television station the group is prepared to give you an advanced shot at tickets. For more information on this, please visit the Celtic Woman website.
