Celine Dion Wraps Up Las Vegas Residency this Year

Celine Dion and her “A New Day” cast have begun their fifth and last year performing at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.

Over two million fans have come to see the production created by Franco Dragone since it first opened in March 2003 at the Colosseum, which cost $95 million to build and was designed specifically for Dion’s show.

Dion in a statement said, my fans have been very supportive.  I want to thank all of them for going on the journey with me.  Being able to work with Franco Dragone, the director, and wonderful cast made up of amazing artists has provided me with the chance to provide new interpretations of my music in very profound and different ways.  Every night I have been able to share with my audience a unique experience.  Four years ago when I started on this adventure, I had absolutely no idea of just how magical the experience was going to be.  As we are preparing to say our goodbyes, I know this year will be our best one yet.

In a statement AEG Live president John Meglen said, the highly successful “ A New Day” has exceeded everybody’s expectations.

The fact that Celine continues to sell 4,000 seats every night after nearly four years is a reflection of her passion, artistry and connection she makes with her fans.

“A New Day” will close on December 15.  Currently dates are set through July.  On March 1 tickets for the last block of performances running August to December will be going on sale.

Dion will be taking a break January 30 to February 17, when Elton John will be performing at the Colosseum.

“A New Day” on January 17-21 will be filmed for a DVD and TV special in high definition.  According to a recent press release, bonus behind the scenes footage will also be included.

$1 Million Raised for Tsunami Release by Celine Dion

According to Concerts West, an event producer, Celine Dion’s May 8th Mother’s Day performance of her “A New Day” Las Vegas production raised over $1 million for South Asian tsunami victims.

The funds were raised from show proceeds, sponsorship packages, collection boxes set up at the venue, a program book, and silent auction before the show.  The proceeds raised were donated to the UNICEF Tsunami Recovery Fund, set up to help with rebuilding and relief efforts for the region affected by the tsunami.  Larry King, talk show host from CNNN and Honorary Committee Member of UNICEF, was the show’s Master of Ceremonies on Sunday.
