It seems like we will see a bit more of the Palins on TV this fall as Sarah Palin’s infamous daughter, the 19-year old single mother Bristol Palin is confirmed to appear in the 11th season of the ABC dance-off “Dancing with the Stars”.
“She’s excited for me. She knows this is going to be hard work,” the younger Palin said of her mother’s reaction to her stint at the top rating primetime show. Palin’s participation in the ABC Monday night dance competition follows her on-again and off-again engagement – or what the press described as a “media stint” – to her fame seeking baby daddy Levi Johnston who knocked her up in 2008 and fathered the now two-year old Tripp. Johnston, who is now eyeing a seat in public office in his native Alaska after his Playgirl spread, is said to have a very ill relationship with Bristol’s mother and former Republican VP aspirant, Sarah Palin.
Bristol on the other hand has capitalized on her notorious teenage pregnancy shocker (which came about during her mother’s campaign) by gracing several talk shows, giving interviews to magazines and by guesting in “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”, an ABC series that somewhat mirrors her life as a teenage mom.
Meanwhile, this season’s DWTS also features other ill-famed celebrities like David Hasselhoff who recently bounced back from alcoholism after his four-season stint as a judge in the NBC talent show “America’s Got Talent”, MTV reality stars Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino from “Jersey Shore” and Audrina Patridge from “The Hills” who are both banking on their new found fame to further expand it, especially for Patridge whose MTV reality series just recently came to a close for good.
The show will also be filled with various “has beens” like balladeer Michael Bolton, R&B star Brandy, 76-year old Florence Henderson from “The Brady Bunch” and one-hit wonder Jennifer Grey, or “Baby” from the 1987 classic film “Dirty Dancing” where she lifted and grinded her skinny frail body against the sexy moves of the late Patrick Swayze.
Despite rising to fame through a box office dance chick flick, Grey does not feel confident that the moves she learned from Swayze will carry her through the finals. “I’m 50. It’s been a lot of years since then,” the actress said.
Completing the list of “stars” are Disney baby Kyle Massey, comedienne Margaret Cho and retired athletes Rick Fox of the Lakers and Kurt Warner of the Arizona Cardinals.
The current champions of the competition are lead Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and her partner Derek Hough. The new season of “Dancing with the Stars” premieres on September 20, Monday at ABC.
After it soared throughout summer with top notch ratings, NBC and Universal Media Studios green lights “America’s Got Talent” for another season, it’s sixth, which would premiere summer of next year.
The show would still have the same trio of judges – Sharon Osbourne, Howie Mandel and Piers Morgan – with host Nick Cannon still on board. According to Paul Telegdy, EVP of Alternative Programming and Production, having a “dream team of celebrity judges” and a “versatile host” will guarantee a much better show next season especially after season five’s new creative strategies which proved to be successful after ATG surpassed all other summer TV shows with an average of 11.8 million viewers for both of its scheduled airings every Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
The season finale of the hit talent show is just around the corner and you can catch it when the final performances airs on Tuesday, September 14 and when a new winner is crowned on September 15, Wednesday over at NBC.
“America’s Got Talent” is a breeding ground for exceptionally entertaining stage acts all across the United States. But this popular NBC summer talent show also gives way for popular music acts to promote their latest work, case in point, Kylie Minogue’s “Get Outta My Way”.
Taken from the Australian pop diva’s newest studio effort “Aphrodite” which also features the lead track “All the Lovers”, “Get Outta My Way” is the second single from the said album. The single should not be confused with another Minogue hit, the 2001 club anthem “Can’t Get You Out of My Head”.
Minogue performed the new single in last night’s episode of ATG along with scantily clad dancers, a pretty normal visual for any Kylie Minogue performance. And I can tell you, given ample airplay, this track could be another hit for the pop songstress.
Dressed in nothing but a bikini, LeAnn Rimes entered the “America’s Got Talent” stage flipping, doing the cartwheel and bouncing up and down while singing her version of the John Anderson original “Swingin’” which appears in her new studio set, “Lady and Gentlemen”.
But her appearance in a wholesome talent show drew nothing but criticisms, from the set design, to the props (including that surf board she uncomfortably stepped onto to close the performance), to her sleazy costume which only proved to the world that she truly was a sleazy home wrecker with no guilt, Rimes was sadly, not going down “Swingin’”.
Sure she hit all the right notes – well – except for a few flats which we attribute to the twirling and all the dizzying movements she had on stage, and sure her body – the body that Eddie Cibrian left his wife for – was as hot as the weather, but she should’ve stuck with her old guns instead, you know, the image of the country classy gal who sings about how we “Can’t Fight the Moonlight” or “How Do I Live”, not the one who performs a wholesome themed song while she and the rest of her back ups are scantily dressed.
On and by the way, only Katy Perry can get away with such an ensemble and still go down swinging – with class and style.
After starting out the season without “The Hoff” as one of the judges and after the addition of YouTube aspirants in the competition, the NBC summer talent show “America’s Got Talent” has officially opened its semifinal round with its top 24.
The top 24 were selected after six weeks of grueling performances, anxiety and buzzing and criticisms from the judges. The final four that completed the top 24 were the four wildcard contestants who were featured in Tuesday’s episode where there was no single singing act that graced the stage – it was a first.
The four wild card acts who are going into the next round are ballroom dancers Anna & Patryk, aerial acrobats Michael Lipari & Ashleigh Dejon, illusionist Michael Grasso and kite flyer Connor Doran whose performance obviously moved the emotions of talent judge Howie Mandel. The rest of the 24 semifinalists include Christina & Ali, the hip-hop tandem of Future Funk, Fighting Gravity whose acts recalls to mind the acts of The Blue Man Group, and Nathaniel Kenyon.
Filling up the rest of the list are AscenDance, Antonio Restivo, Michael Grimm, Alice Tan Ridley, Haspop, Jeremy VanSchoonhoven, Debra Romer, Studio One Young Beast Society, Taylor Matthews, ArcAttack, Prince Poppycock, Murray Sawchuck, Kristina Young, Maestro Alexander Bui, Dan Sperry and the very young Jackie Evancho. The last four semifinalists came from Week 5 of the quarterfinals where all 12 contestants auditioned through YouTube.
The semifinals will start on August 24, Tuesday where five performers will be picked out of 12 to initially fill in the top 10. The remaining five contestants to advance in the top 10 will be determined after the second part of the semifinals airs on August 31 where the top 10 will solely rely on the viewers’ votes to see them through the final four.
Move over American Idol, your NBC rival, “America’s Got Talent” will also be going on a tour that will span the entire country this fall.
This will be the first time for the talent show to bring its finalists, winners and other performers who have all made their marks in the previous seasons and the current season closer to their fans from different cities and states. Jerry Springer, who hosted the “America’s Got Talent” live show in Las Vegas, will also be hosting the road show which will kick off in Oakland’s Paramount Theatre on October 1 and will tackle mostly west coast and Midwestern cities throughout the month.
Towards the end of October till early November, the tour will swing by the east coast with stops in New York, New Jersey, and Boston to name a few, and a stop in Orlando on November 7 to finally wrap the tour up.
Tickets for all the shows included in the tour will be available to the public starting exactly a month from now, August 23, Friday through the AEG Live website. AEG Live is responsible for bringing the talent show live to 25 cities all across the US.
In a statement by Andy Felsher of Freemantle Media, he said that bringing the show live to several US cities is a thrilling “opportunity to bring fans closer to one of their favorite shows”. Freemantle Media has been producing the hit NBC talent show for five seasons now.
