311 Grabs Sublime for Summer Tour

Alternative rock group, 311, hailing from Nebraska is ready to embark on their annual “Unity Tour,” which this year will include performances from Sublime with Rome.

They will be on tour for two months starting in Bonner Springs, KS on July 8. It will traverse the country, where the two groups will perform in 30 cities from the East Coast to the West Coast. The final concert is scheduled to be in Seattle on August 26.

The tour is in promotion of 311’s upcoming album. It is yet to be named, but it is anticipated it will go on sale later in the summer. The group’s most recent album was 2009’s “Uplifter,” and their concerts are going to include selections from this and previous albums.

The members of Sublime with Rome are original member, Bud Gaugh on drums and Eric Wilson on bass. Rome, who is on guitar and vocals, is new to the band. They are recording a new studio album right now, their first with the new member. Paul Leary, who has produced Meat Puppets and Butthole Surfers is slated to produce this newest release just as he did for Sublime’s 1996 album. This album will also hit the shelves in the summer.

In the years prior to this, some of the other featured artists to appear on 311’s “Unity Tour” were The Offspring, The Roots, Matisyahu, and Snoop Dogg.

311 Sets Up Club Tour Dates and Music Cruise

With their new album due to be released soon 311, the alt-rockers from Nebraska, are taking on a run of club shows and will then embark on a Caribbean cruise of four days.

The tour’s first stop will kick off in Las Vegas on February 19.  The trek will then continue across the West Coast and then head east.  The outing of eight dates will wrap up in Charleston, SC on March 1.  The band will then board a Carnival cruise, which is four day tour of the Caicos and Turks.

The cruise is sold out, but there are additional details available at 311cruise.com.

According to information posted at the band’s website, the group is in the studio currently with their producer Bob Rock (Bon Jovi, Metallica) working on an unnamed album.  On their ninth album, “Uplifter” from 2009, the band also worked with Rock.  “Uplifter” debuted in the No. 2 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart.  It is the band’s highest position on the chart to date.

311 is hoping their new album will be released by this summer.

311 Pairs with Offspring for Summer Tour

Two of alternative rocks pioneers, 311 and the Offspring, are joining forces for what has been dubbed as the Unity Tour. The co-headlining gig will kick off in Chicago, Illinois on June 29 and will carry through to Chula Vista, California on July 25. A full listing of 311 tour dates can be viewed below.

311 will be warming up before the set by taking on seven dates solo in April and June. These dates include trips to Alaska and Hawaii as well as festival dates. 311 is touring on its latest album Uplifter that was released last summer and notched its way up to number 3 on the Billboard Album Charts. The Offspring are currently mired down in the recording process, looking to birth the follow-up to their 2008 release “Rise and Fall, Rage and Grace.” The forthcoming Unity Tour will serve as a break from laying down studio tracks, but the new material will surface in Offspring’s set lists. The band Pepper will serve as opening musical support on the tour.

311 Take Uplifter into Spring

The alt-rock group 311 have mapped out a late winter trek covering the West Coast. The band continues to support “Uplifter,” their latest album released last summer.

Their latest set of shows will be kicking off in Santa Cruz on February 23, followed by two additional stops in California. The outing of 11 cities will include opening support from The Wailers for five of their shows and wrap up things with a “311 Day” special concert at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on March 11.

The ninth album from 311, “Uplifter,” was released in June. Bob Rock, the hard rock veteran producer who has also worked with Motley Crue and Metallica, produced the set. According to Nick Hexum, 311 vocalist and guitarist, the result was a louder direction on the band’s latest effort.

Earlier this year Hexum said it evolved towards a sound that was more aggressive, but we didn’t push it. Early on we had a group of songs that we thought would make this album our heaviest so far. He loved the reggae stuff. We are able to find a way of merging the funky reggae with the heavy side. “Hey You” does that pretty well I think.

After we finished I realized there aren’t too many bands that get away putting so many different styles on one album.

“Uplifter” is the first new material collection from the band since “Don’t Tread on Me” in 2005.

311 Parks in Las Vegas for 2010′s ’311 Day’

311 is capitializing on its namesake once again by featuring its once yearly special concert on 3/11. Recent years it has been in Memphis and New Orleans, but for 2010 the boys head west for Sin City. The Mandelay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas will play host for “the ultimate 311 experience” as its been dubbed.

In the past, these shows have featured 5-hour musical sets combined with special effects lights show. Don’t forget the occasional appearance by acrobats, marching bands, stilt walkers and other general elements of fun chaos. The 2008 version of 311 Day brought 14,000 devoted fans from all 50 states and imports from 13 countries. The event drew such acclaim that the mayor of New Orleans declared March 11 to be “311 Day” in New Orleans. I wonder if he’s feeling a bit slighted now that it’s picked up sticks to Vegas?

Tickets for the 2010 event will go onsale via Ticketmaster on October 31. Tickets will also be available for purchase through Mandalay Bay’s box office.

311 Keeps ‘Uplifter’ Tour Alive this Fall

311 spent a healthy time touring this summer to promote their latest release “Uplifter,” but it looks like there is still gas left in the tank. The alt-rock band is set to embark on a fall tour starting November 11 at Temecula, CA. The run will hit a total of 19 cities before calling it quits in Austin on December 8.

The 311 tour will be heavy with material drawn from “Uplifter,” released on June 9, and will feature support by none other than Kottonmouth Kings and State Radio. Bob Rock (Motley Crue, Metallica) fielded production duties on “Uplifter” affording the band a louder edge without sacrificing their reggae roots.

311 Books Unity Tour Dates with Ziggy Marley

The alt rock band 311 has announced 2009 dates for their annual Unity Tour. Support from Ziggy Marley, special guest, will also be featured.

The Unity Tour will visit 25 cities, kicking off in Santa Barbara, CA on June 5 and run through August, wrapping up back on the coast of California with shows in San Diego on August 11 and in Irvine, CA on August 12.

The band’s summer dates will follow the forthcoming spring headlining run kicking off in Tucson, AZ on April 15 and traveling for a month through the Midwest and South. The 19 city trek will wrap up in Springfield, MO on May 15.

On “Uplifter,” the band’s ninth studio album, 311 worked with Bob Rock, veteran producer of hard rock who has also worked with Motley Crue and Metallica. It’s the band’s first studio album since the release of “Don’t Tread on Me” released in 2005. “Uplifter” is due out on June 2.

Nick Hexum, the band’s guitarist and lead singer said, he brings the best out in 311. He doesn’t try putting signature sounds on what he does. He tries just accentuating a band’s strengths.

Despite the musical pedigree of Rock, according to Hexum on the upcoming set fans will get more straight rock and roll.

Hexum said, we were getting a lot more into reggae. Now we are ready I think to have a heavier sound. It is definitely a blend. There will be reggae and hip-hop. I would characterize lots of the new stuff as heavy but up-tempo.

311 Team with Snoop Dogg for Unity Tour

This summer, 311, the reggae rockers, and Snoop Dogg, rap star, will be joining forces on the road for Unity Tour 2008.

On June 24, the outing will kick off in Phoenix then travel from West to East Coast, wrapping up in Austin, TX on August 2-3 with a finale of two nights. Fiction Plane, special guest, will be opening the shows, which primarily will take place in amphitheaters.

311 is wrapping their spring jaunt up. It included “311 Day,” the biggest annual event for the band, held in New Orleans. According to the band’s website, this year’s festival drew in 14,000 fans from 13 different countries as well as all 50 states to hear five hours worth of music.

During their touring break, the band will be working on a new album and will likely be previewing some new material on the Unity Tour, according to Nick Hexum, 311′s guitarist and singer.

The upcoming album will follow “Don’t Tread on Me,” the band’s 2005 set. The title track was a hit single.

A few weeks ago Snoop Dogg reached Billboard 200′s Top 3 with “Ego Trippin’,” his ninth solo album. “Sexual Eruption,” the lead single, has been a big hit on radio, including dance, hip-hop and R&B. A sample for the song and a couple others from his new album are streaming on the MySpace page of Snoop.
