Carly Rae Jepsen Draws Opening Duties for Justin Bieber Tour
The “Call Me Maybe” sensation Carly Rae Jepsen has announced that she will join Justin Bieber as the very special guest for the “Believe” tour this fall.
The two will take the same stage beginning September 29 at the Jobing.com Arena in Glendale, Ariz. The extensive arena tour is scheduled to run through early 2013, and the last show of the trek is at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on January 26, 2013. The tour will be presented by AEG Live.
Jepsen’s rise to the mainstream has been extremely quick, and much of that has to do with Bieber himself. Earlier this year, Jepsen was a relative unknown, best recognized for finishing in third place on the 2007 season of “Canadian Idol.” But when Bieber, a fellow Canadian, was at home visiting family and happened to hear “Call Me Maybe,” that “relative unknown” status changed almost immediately.
First, Bieber tweeted to his 22 million followers about the song. “‘Call Me Maybe’ by Carly Rae Jepsen is probably the catchiest song I’ve ever heard. Lol,” he tweeted. The song, and subsequently Jepsen, gained an even bigger profile when a video of Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale lip-synching the song was uploaded to YouTube. That video gathered over 40 million views, and soon many others like Katy Perry and James Franco were uploading similar clips.
“All of a sudden people were direct-messaging me from Germany and all over the world,” Jepsen recently told Rolling Stone about her newfound fame. “It was crazy.”
In the same interview with the magazine, Jepsen also spoke about how she is often perceived to be younger than her 26 years.
“The youngest I’ve heard so far is 18, and it’s always extremely shocking to me,” she said. “I don’t feel like I look 16, and I hope I don’t carry myself like I’m 16. It’s always nice for a woman to hear she looks younger than she is. I try to take it as a compliment.”
