Bruno Mars, the American music producer and singer-songwriter, was born as Peter Gene Hernandez on October 8, 1985 in Honolulu, Hawaii. His family was full of musicians and he started to make music at a very young age. Throughout his childhood Mars performed in different musical venues located in his hometown. After he graduated from highschool, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in music. Mars joined a production team called The Smeezingtons and started to produce songs for different artists.

Mars started unsuccessfully with Motown Records before signing in 2009 with Atlantic Records. He lent his vocals and co-wrote hooks for Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire” and B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You.” He was also the co-writer on Flo Rida’s hit song “Right Round” featuring Kesha, Cee Lo Green’s “Fuck You!” and K’naan’s “Wavin’ Flag.” In October 2010 Mars released “Doo-Wops & Holligans,” his debut album. The album spawned two No. 1 worldwide singles “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are,” and peaked in the No. 3 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart. Mars received seven Grammy nominations. For his song “Just the Way You Are” he won Best Male Pop Vocal Performance.

The music of Bruno Mars is known for displaying many different influences and styles and containing elements form a wide array of musical genres. Mars has worked with artists from many different musical genres and his collaborations have influenced his own music.
