Bruce Springsteen, Metallica, Iron Maiden Sign on for Rock in Rio

Next year’s incarnation of the Rock in Rio festival is already shaping up to be a great one with the announcement of headliners Metallica, Iron Maiden and Bruce Springsteen.

“We’re back with another show announcement and unlike last week’s posting, we’re giving you almost [a] whole year’s notice!!” Metallica posted on its official website. “We are super psyched to be returning to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for our sixth Rock in Rio. How’s that for advanced planning?!”

Next year’s festival will take place September 19-22, 2013. Metallica will headline on September 19, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will headline the following night and Iron Maiden will do the honors on September 22. Of course, we can expect many more lineup announcements between now and next September.

The “unlike last week’s posting” portion of the Metallica writing refers to the band’s upcoming headlining spot at the Voodoo Music and Arts Experience in New Orleans later this month. The band announced earlier this week that they would fill in for Green Day, who had to cancel their appearance after frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said he would enter rehab for substance abuse after a well-publicized rant at the iHeartMusic Festival last month.

Metallica will perform on Saturday, October 27 at the Voodoo festival, which also features Jack White, Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Skrillex and the Avett Brothers, among many more.

The NME reports that Brazilian residents will be able to purchase tickets for the 2013 Rock in Rio festival beginning October 23. International residents, however, will have to wait until April of next year.

This announcement is just the next in a string of 2013 shows announced by Iron Maiden. The metal legends have also already announced a number of European festival dates for June and July of next year.
