bright eyes Biography

Bright Eyes, the American indie/folk band, was founded by guitarist and singer-songwriter Conor Oberst. Other band members include Mike Mogis, producer and multi instrumentalist, Nate Walcott, pianist and trumpeter, and a lineup of rotating collaborators primarily from the indie music scene in Omaha.

The band is signed with Saddle Creek Records, which is a label based in Nebraska that was founded by Justin and Conor Oberst. Sony Corporation is the distributor. In 2004, two Bright Eyes singles Take It Easy (Love Nothing) and Lua held the first two spots on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart.

The Bright Eyes name comes from a line in the classic film Planet of the Apes. In 1998 Oberst released 20 songs as Bright Eyes first official album entitled A Collection of Songs Written and Recorded 1995-1997. With this album Oberst started experimenting with keyboards, drum machines and other instruments. Sounds on the album range from techno style synthesizer instrumentals to acoustic guitar songs to bleating vocals. The set received negative critical reaction.

Bright Eyes released the ten track album Letting Off the Happiness in 1998 and in 2000 Fevers and Mirrors. In 2002 the band released Lifted or The Story Is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground. The band became one of that year's most acclaimed new artists. Lifted was commercially successful and to date has sold more than 250,000 copies. In 2005 Bright Eyes released Digital Ash in a Digital Um and I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning and went on a long world tour after these two albums were released. The People's Key, Bright Eyes' newest album, was released in February 2011.
