Bono's Back Surgery Resets U2 Tour Dates for 2011
Iconic Irish rockers U2 will be back in the touring scene after almost a year since front man Bono threw his back out severely and had to undergo an immediate intensive surgery last May at a hospital in Germany.
The U2 360° world tour was launched last year but had to be cancelled during its North American trek to give way for Bono’s surgery and recuperation. The said leg of the tour has been rescheduled for May 2011 with a show in Denver on May 21. Tickets are still available for the new tour schedule and tickets previously bought for the original show dates will still be honored for the rescheduled dates. Those who have changed their minds about the event can have their tickets refunded from where they purchased it.
However, fans of the quartet in Europe won’t have to wait that long since Bono and the rest of U2 will be going back on the road this summer consistent with their original tour schedule. They will be hitting back the European trail on August 6 with a show in Turin, Italy with Kasabian as support act. They will be in the continent till October.
Bono’s recuperation has come off as a blessing in disguise of some sorts. In a video clip posted over the band’s website, the singer said that being bedridden for a few months after the surgery has helped him brainstorm ideas for new songs that they might sample during the world tour. At present, the singer is no longer immobile and is gradually regaining back his strength.
The world tour will feature the band performing their greatest hits – both classics and current hits – including some material from their 12th and most recent studio effort, “No Line on the Horizon”, which hit the shelves in February last year. The album landed atop not only on the Billboard 200 but also on several album charts worldwide. It also moved close to half a million copies during its first week in the market.
