Black Keys, Cee Lo, TV on the Radio Join Virgin Mobile FreeFest
Put your wallet away and mark your calendar. On September 10 Virgin Mobile FreeFest is making its return.
Once again tickets will be completely free. On Friday they’ll be given away at 10 a.m.
Black Keys, the rock duo from Ohio, heads the bill along with Patti Smith, a recent winner of the National Book Award, TV on the Radio and Cee Lo Green.
In a statement Seth Hurwitz, I.M.P. Chairman, the promoter producing the festival said, we want this festival to be seen by people as a listing of the coolest bands as well as stories from the moment.
Main stage performers will also include Bombay Bicycle Club, Alberta Cross, Two Door Cinema Club, Empire of the Sun, Big Sean, Okkervil River, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Cut Copy and DJ Deadmau5.
Dance Forest is also being brought back from last year by promoters. Performers will include Teddybears, Eclectic Method, Porter Robinson, Ghostland Observatory, Calvin Harris and Murphy from the now-defunct band LCD Soundsystem, who closed out the FreeFest last year.
It will be the third year that FreeFest has been held at Merriweather since slimming down to one day from two days where it was held at Pimlico Race Course.
The Facebook page for Virgin Mobile Live will be giving away tickets. To secure tickets you will need to click on the page’s “like” button.
For Virgin Mobile customers as well as those who had festival tickets during the last five years, just a heads up. According to promoters, you’ll be invited via e-mail and text for a private pre-giveaway which will take place at 10 a.m. on Thursday.
