beyonce Biography

The American recording artist, fashion designer and actress Beyonce was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas. During the late 1990s Beyonce rose to fame as lead singer of Destiny's Child, the R&B girl group, which is one of the all time best-selling girl groups in the world.

In 2003, while Destiny's Child was on hiatus, Beyonce released “Dangerously in Love,” her debut solo set. The album spawned two number one hit singles “Baby Boy” and “Crazy in Love” and was one of 2003's most successful albums. She won five Grammy Awards for the set. Destiny's Child disbanded in 2005 and Beyonce released “B'Day,” her second solo set, in 2006. The album debuted in the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 chart and including hit singles “Beautiful Liar” and “Irreplaceable.” In 2008 she released “I Am... Sasha Fierce,” her third solo set, which included “Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It).” Beyonce won six Grammy Awards for the album.

Beyonce made her acting debut in 2001 with “Carmen: A Hip Hopera,” a musical film. In 2006 she starred in “Dreamgirls” and was nominated for two Golden Globe awards. House of Dereon, a family fashion line, was introduced by Beyonce and her mother in 2004. She has also endorsed L'Oreal, Armani, Tommy Hilfiger and Pepsi.

Beyonce's 16 total Grammy Awards is third best for female artists. Billboard ranked Beyonce 4th artist for the decade of the 2000's and most successful female recording artist and top artist artist for that decade. Beyonce was listed by the Recording Industry Association as the decade's top certified artist. She has sold more than 75 million worldwide records to date, which makes her one of the all-time best selling musical artists.
