Avicii Takes Electronic Dance to North American Arenas
In what is being touted as the “world’s first-ever electronic dance music all arena tour,” Avicii will perform in arenas around the country starting in May.
The Swedish DJ and producer will begin the tour May 17 at Houston’s Reliant Arena, and the last stop currently scheduled for the tour will be at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on July 4. Other cities the tour will visit include New Orleans, Detroit, Minneapolis, Miami, Boston and Quebec City, and more dates are expected to be added soon.
Additionally, Avicii will perform at this year’s Coachella Festival on April 15 and April 22. This year’s event will feature identical lineups two weekends in a row.
The “AVICII – LE7ELS” tour will be presented by At Night and Ash Alliance, along with Goldenvoice, which also produces the Coachella Festival. Goldenvoice’s Paul Tollett spoke of his excitement about the tour.
“Goldenvoice is excited to be working with Avicii on his North American tour,” he said. “We can’t wait for his Coachella performance, from what we’ve seen and heard it’s going to be a highlight.”
At the end of this month, Avicii will play a handful of dates in South Africa before heading to Asia for a short tour. Around the same time as Coachella, he will play a small number of U.S. dates in Las Vegas (April 13); Bridgeport, Conn. (April 17); Kingston, R.I. (April 18) and Lafayette, Ind. (April 25).
Before the arena tour, he will head back to Europe for a few dates in Italy, Prague and Sweden.
The single “Levels” was officially released in October of last year after already becoming a hit around the world. The song features a vocal sample from the Etta James song “Something’s Got a Hold on Me.” Avicii also released the single “Fade into Darkness” in 2011.
