avett brothers Biography

The folk rock band The Avett Brothers were formed in Concord, North Carolina in 2000. Band members consist of the brothers Seth Avett (guitar) and Scott Avett (banjo), along wit Bob Crawford (stand-up bass). Touring members include Jacob Edwards (drums) and Joe Kwon (cello). The Avett Brothers music combines blue grass, folk, country, pop, punk, ragtime, honky tonk and rock and rock and roll.

In 2001, The Avett Brothers released a self-titled EP and then in 2002 “Country Was,” the band's first full length set. In 2003, they released “A Carolina Jubilee” and in 2004 “Migonette,” which featured introspective lyrics and polished harmonies. “Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Session” was released in 2006 to critical acclaim. While touring to support the set, they also produced an EP called “The Gleam,” which featured stripped-down, intimate recordings.

In 2007, The Avett Brothers released “Emotionalism.” The set debuted at No. 134 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers Album chart and No. 13 on their Independent Artist chart. In 2008, they released “The Second Gleam,” their second EP, and in 2009 the full length “I and Love and You.” The set peaked in the No. 16 spot on Billboard’s 200 chart, No. 1 for folk albums, No. 7 for rock albums and No. 8 for digital albums. Rolling Stone Magazine named The Avett Brothers “the Artist to Watch of 2009.”
