avenged sevenfold Biography
The American rock band Avenged Sevenfold was formed in 1999 in Huntington Beach, California. Current band members include M. Shadows (vocalist), Synyster Gates (lead guitarist), Zacky Vengeance (rhythm guitarist) and Johnny Christ (bassist).
The band is known for having an eclectic heavy metal sound, fiercely loyal fans, and dramatic imagery on their t-shirts and album covers. On the band's debut album “Sounding the Seventh Trumpet,” they showcased a metal core sound. However the evolution of the band's style had evolved into hard rock by the time they released their third album, “City of Evil,” which was their first release with a major label. With Avenged Sevenfold's self-titled release, they continued exploring new sounds and continued enjoying mainstream success until James “The Rev” Sullivan, the band's drummer, died in 2009. The band continued, despite Sullivan's death, with help from Mike Portnoy, the former drummer of Dream Theater. In 2010 they released “Nightmare,” their fifth album, and toured to support the set. The album debuted in the No. 1 spot on Billboard's 200 chart, making it the band's first No. 1 debut.
Avenged Sevenfold to date has released eighteen singles, one compilation/live album and DVD and five studio albums. They have sold over four million worldwide albums. The band is widely credited with being one of the leaders of American Heavy Metal's New Wave.
