Amy Winehouse to Perform in Brazil in January

Amy Winehouse has announced she will be playing four shows in January in Brazil.  It’s been two years since the pop/soul singer has performed a full concert in public due to multiple personal struggles and legal issues.

Winehouse will make three Summer Soul Festival stops in Brazil.  She will be in Florianopolis on January 8, in Recife on January 13, and in Sao Paulo on January 15.  On January 11 she will also headline a show in the city of Rio de Janerio at Arena HSBC.

Janelle Monae will provide the support for all the Brazilian dates of Winehouse’s.  For the appearances at Summer Soul Festival Mayer Hawthorne will be part of the bill as well.

The drug-fueled exploits of the troubled Winehouse have made the singer a tabloid news mainstay.  In recent years she’s had shows scheduled that she has called off.  The biggest, perhaps, was a slot at Coachella Fest in Southern California in 2009.

In October a four song set was played by Winehouse to celebrate the launching of her clothing line with Fred Perry.  The gig was Winehouse’s most recent performance in public.

Recently Winehouse released the first new song of hers since “Back to Black,” her 2006 breakthrough album.  The track is entitled “It’s My Party” and appears on “Q: Soul Bossa Nostra,” the compilation from Quincy Jones.
