Allman Brothers Set Dates for NYC Shows
The Allman Brothers Band is announcing dates for their annual residency in New York City. This year it will be moving to a new venue after being at Beacon Theatre for 20 years.
The Beacon was not available because of a scheduling conflict, so the band has moved their eight night engagement uptown over to the United Palace Theatre, a 3,200 seat venue. The engagement will kick off on March 11 and run through March 20.
An April 25 appearance has been confirmed by the band as well. They will be playing in New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
Last year was the band’s 40th anniversary year. They kicked the year off at Beacon Theatre with 15 shows. They had a very impressive lineup of special guests making cameo appearances or sitting in as part of the band’s run. The guests included Jimmy Herring and John Bell from Widespread Panic, Levon Helm, Billy Gibbons, Bruce Hornsby, Kid Rock, Sheryl Crow, Page McConnell from Phish, Trey Anastasio, Phil Lesh from The Dead, Bob Weir and Eric Clapton.
The subsequent tour of the band held even more surprises. It included a visit in Los Angeles that was unannounced by Tom Petty along with Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, band mates, to assist in performing a couple of Bob Dylan classics. Ziggy Marley also dropped in the night after the band covered “I Shot the Sheriff” by Bob Marley.
