Alabama Shakes Take to the Road in March

The Alabama Shakes have had quite the year since the release of their debut album Boys & Girls in April, and now the band is looking to make next year just as good with a slew of U.S. dates scheduled for March 2013.

The new trek will kick off March 1, 2013 at the Knitting Factory Concert House in Boise, Idaho, and the group is scheduled to stay on the road through a March 16 show at Hal & Mal’s in Jackson, Mississippi. In between those dates, the band will play cities including Portland, Oregon; Seattle; Davis, California; Denver; Kansas City and New Orleans. All shows on the tour will be supported by Michael Kiwanuka, Sam Doores and Riley Downing.

These dates will follow some previously announced gigs for the group, as they will travel around Australia with the Big Day Out Tour in January. They also will appear at Lollapalooza Brazil later in March and Lollapalooza Chile in April.

In addition to Boys & Girls, the group has a new song out called “Always Alright.” The song can be found in the new romantic comedy/drama “Silver Linings Playbook,” which stars Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. Other notable names appearing in that movie include Robert De Niro, Julia Stiles and Chris Tucker.

The group formed in 2009, and began to receive widespread attention when they released four-song self-titled EP in September 2011. By the time Boys & Girls was released the following year, acclaim for the group’s soulful live show had been spreading throughout much of the music industry and landed the group on many late night network talk shows. According to Pollstar, the group’s debut album has sold more than 325,000 copies since its release. Other than “Always Alright,” there has been no official word as to whether the group is planning on releasing any additional new music.
