Aerosmith Set Concert Dates for ‘Global Warming Tour’
After much recent speculation, Aerosmith has officially announced their upcoming North American Summer Tour, and it will be known as the Global Warming Tour.
“Aerosmith, America’s greatest rock and roll band, will start your summer sizzling and have you dancing around the fires of rock n’ roll again,” reads a post on the band’s website.
The tour will hit 18 different cities, and will kick off June 16 in Minneapolis at the Target Center. The arena tour will last until August 8 when the band plays the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Wash. In between, the group also will play Chicago, Toronto, Detroit, Milwaukee, Boston, Atlanta and Los Angeles. Cheap Trick will open all dates.
Though an Aerosmith tour of North America has been expected for some time, it was easy to assume that it wouldn’t be announced until Wednesday, since the band had been posting somewhat cryptic messages to their social media networks late last week.
Lead singer Steven Tyler got it started when he wrote the following on his Twitter page: “OK… NEXT WEDNESDAY (((HUMP DAY)))…SEE U AT THE GROVE LA???… SUMTHIN BIG GOING DOWN!!!! MEET ME AT THE FOUNTAIN… 1130???”
Later, a message appeared on the band’s Facebook page. “Hey – something’s going on big at The Grove in Los Angeles,” the post stated. “Be at the fountain near the patch of grass, Wednesday, March 28th promptly at 12 PM. This is YOUR chance to see Aerosmith and a whole lot more.
And while we still don’t know exactly what will happen at the Grove, we do at least know definitively there will be a tour. It seems the band members, which have had a few fairly public spats in recent years, are excited about getting the band back on the road.
“The old Aerosmith is back with a new vengeance and we will kick your a** and make out with your mothers,” said Tyler in a press release.
“Can’t wait to bring this band back home,” said guitarist Joe Perry. “It feels like we’ve been away too long.”
