Adele Wins Big at Billboard Awards

What’s typically happened during the past year and three months on the Billboard 200 albums charts is that a highly anticipated album will be released that will jump to the number one spot during its first week out. Then, after the initial sales spike, that album will fall down the charts and Adele’s most recent album, 21, will climb right back into the number one spot. The album is currently number two, and has been held out of the top spot for the past two weeks by country superstar Carrie Underwood’s new album Blown Away. But if precedent holds, 21 will be back on top soon.

So it shouldn’t be any surprise that the English singer racked up 12 Billboard Music Awards at a ceremony over the weekend. The awards will go into her trophy case alongside her eight Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards and three Brit Awards.

Adele was by far the big winner at this year’s Billboard awards ceremony, picking up awards that included Top Artist, Top Female Artist, Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Pop Album and Top Billboard 200 Album. The latter was pretty much a given. But she wasn’t the only person in the spotlight during the night, which aired live on ABC from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Los Angeles.

LMFAO won six awards, including Hot 100 Song of the Year for “Party Rock Anthem” and Top Duo/Group. The group also performed a medley of their biggest hits including “Party Rock Anthem,” “Sorry for the Party Rocking” and “I’m Sexy and I Know It.”

There was also a touching moment when Whitney Houston’s daughter Bobbi Kristina appeared onstage to accept the Millennium Award for her mother.

“I just really want to say thank you to everyone,” she said. “Not just when it was good or bad. She deserves it. I’m just blessed to have been in such an incredible woman’s life.”
