Adele to Release New Music in 2012, Album Two Years Out

In a recent interview, Adele announced that fans can likely expect a new single from her by the end of the year, but that they’ll have to wait a little longer for a new record.

Speaking to France’s NRJ radio station earlier in the week, she said she expected a new single to be released late this year. She also said that the release of her third album will likely be about two years away, though the exact timing will depend on how long it takes to write.

“There will be a new song, probably coming out at the end of the year,” she said. “But then it depends how quickly I write some of the other songs. If I didn’t write my own songs, I’d be out next week with a new album. I have to take time and live a little bit. There were a good two years between my first and second album, so it’ll be the same this time.”

The British singer-songwriter also spoke about how she will handle the pressure of following up one of the biggest albums to be released so far this millennium. Her sophomore album 21 is on track to become one of the best selling albums of all time.

“I don’t think I’ll feel the pressure for the next album to be as big as the last one because I know that’s not really possible,” she said. “What’s happened with this album is very rare anyway.”

Rare, indeed. By the end of 2011, 21 had already sold over five million copies in the U.S. alone, making it the best selling album since 2004. Released in January 2011, the album remains consistently at or near the top of the Billboard 200 Albums Chart. Currently it is as number two, held out of the top spot by the soundtrack of the recent hit movie, “Hunger Games.”
