a perfect circle Biography
The American rock super group A Perfect Circle was established in 1999 by Maynard James Keenan, Tool vocalist, and guitarist Billy Howerdel. The band's original incarnation also included bassist Paz Lenchantin, guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen and drummer Tim Alexander. The current lineup features James Iha, former Smashing Pumpkins guitarist, and Matt McJunkins, Ashes Divide bassist, as well as Josh Freese, session drummer who has worked with The Vandals, Devo and Nine Inch Nails. Despite the varied cast of players, the songs' stylistic content has stayed consistent, with Howerdel composing the music and Keenan writing the lyrics.
Three albums have been released by A Perfect Circle. “Mer de Noms,” the band's debut album, was released in 2000. In 2003, they released their second set “Thirteenth Step” and in 2004 “eMOTIVe.” They have also released “aMOTION,” a DVD-CD set which consists of thirteen music videos along with several song remixes from Robert Del Naja, Danny Lohner and others.
In 2004, A Perfect Circle went into hiatus. The band members then went on to work on other projects. Keenan worked on “10,000 Days,” Tool's 2006 album, while the band Ashes Divide was founded by Howerdel. In an interview in September 2008, Keenan stated that Howerdel and him were working together on new material. The band, however, didn't really become active again for another two years. In September 2010, the band announced they were going on tour and would be releasing new music.
