Anvil, the heavy metal band from Canada, will be traveling to Los Angeles and attending the Critics Choice awards presentation being held on Friday January 15 at Hollywood Palladium. “Anvil! The Story of Anvil,” the band’s Cinderella story, has received a Critics Choice Movie Award nomination in the Best Documentary category. A whole host of film critics associations all over the continent, including Las Vegas, Toronto, San Francisco and Chicago have named the rockumentary as one of the Best Documentaries of 2009 as well as the National Society of Film Critics, Online Film Critics Society and International Documentary Association.

Due to the chronic back problems of Araya, the band is having to cancel their European and U.S. Carnage tour. However Carrie Underwood, former winner of American Idol and now one of country music’s singing sensations, will probably be appearing in an episode of “How I Met Your Mother,” the CBS sitcom. Should we start making comparisons with the appearance of Britney Spears? Underwood will be playing in the role of a pharmaceutical rep named Tiffany.” According to the show’s creators Barney refers to them as “the Official New Profession of Hot Chicks.”
Continue ReadingThe Allman Brothers Band is announcing dates for their annual residency in New York City. This year it will be moving to a new venue after being at Beacon Theatre for 20 years. The Beacon was not available because of a scheduling conflict, so the band has moved their eight night engagement uptown over to the United Palace Theatre, a 3,200 seat venue. The engagement will kick off on March 11 and run through March 20.

Reports have swirled in the past weeks that The Rolling Stones will be fronting this year’s Glastonbury Festival. Now a representative for the band has released an official statement negating the rumors and sheds light on the band’s future plans.
The rep told online music resource NME.com that the band will not appear in the famous British music festival this summer and the band has no touring plans as of yet. Perhaps the operative words here are “as of yet”, because it’s too early to tell, the year had just begun.

The tour will continue to stretch through into several months of 2010. The upcoming outing for the band will kick off in Missoula, MT on February 7 and then head over the border shortly after that for a long set of appearances in Canada, culminating with a show on March 2 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

This is according to Chris Cornell, the band’s frontman, who posted a message online on New Year’s Day hinting that the band might be making a comeback. On his Twitter account Cornell wrote that their 12 year break was over and school is going back in session. Knights of Soundtable will ride again. In the message there was a link to a new website for Soundgarden where fans are able to sign up to get future updates.
